The martial arts school traditionally holds a fundraising drive in the holiday season, but this was the first year it focused on socks. Socks are one of the items most in need for charities that provide clothing for those unable to afford it, and they can be especially important in protecting from winter cold.
The school set a goal of collecting 1,001 pairs of socks, but ended up beating its goal by several hundred. Sadia Chaudry, Director of the institution’s Dragon After School Program, expressed gratitude for the donations to Inside Halton:
“It is great to see everyone in the community come together for a great cause and help achieve our goal. The socks will be distributed to various shelters, nonprofits and churches that directly help those in need.”
The academy’s previous donation drive gathered more than 1,500 items of food and clothing, as well as other personal items, for the Halton Women’s Place. Fundraising efforts like this often use tools like flyer printing to help raise awareness and encourage donations.
Dragon Taekwondo, which has locations in Oakville and Milton, holds a wide range of classes, including ones aimed at children and an elite team that practices Olympic-style sparring. The school has also branched into “Ninja” style obstacle running, with a secondary gym featuring an obstacle course opening soon.
