Milton Sports Hall of Fame to induct 2019 class

The Ontario town of Milton will be honouring another group of local athletes this November, looking to honour those who helped build local programs or represented Milton on a larger level.

Perhaps the most well-known member of the class is ice hockey player and former Milton Merchant Darren Haydar. He played for the Nashville Predators, Atlanta Thrashers and Colorado Avalanche, but was most successful in the American Hockey League, where he won two Calder Cups and is an all-time playoff leader in multiple categories.

Softball player and coach Neil Teague will also be honoured, alongside ‘builders’ Jim Ridley in baseball, Leon Stickie in hockey, and Janet Campbell in gymnastics.

The Milton Sports Hall of Fame started in 2016 as a way to honour local athletic heroes. Past inductees include jiu-jitsu pioneer Bob Krantsz, former NHL all-star John Tonelli, senior running record-holder Ed Whitlock, and the dominant E. C. Drury school wrestling team.

The hall is a non-profit organization ran by a volunteer board of directors. Local awards and ceremonies help to bring the spotlight to those who may slip beneath the national sports radar, often raising attention through banner printing and Promotional Products.

The class of 2019 will be inducted in a special ceremony at the Milton Sports Centre on November 14. Miltonians may nominate local athletes and builders for next year’s class.
