A new outdoor market has opened in Milton and will run to the summer, offering a variety of products and services from local vendors.
Creator Philip Suos, who also founded Milton’s Holiday Street Market and the travelling Mac and Cheese Festival, has described the space as a blend of food festivals and holiday markets. In addition to food and crafted goods, the market will offer activities like workshops, seminars, and children's activities.
The market opened for the first time on Saturday, May 25,and drew a sizable crowd. While the Saturday opening was limited due to thunderstorms, Sunday was a sunny day and saw many customers taking the opportunity to sample locally made food and crafts. Particularly popular was Papa Chef’s Kitchen, a Caribbean-themed restaurant that sold out on both days. Those with more old-fashioned tastes could enjoy the indoor Escarpment Tea Room, which recreates a classical British tea experience. Local vendors like this often use custom Letterheads and graphic design to make an impression on customers, as word-of-mouth is essential.
The Milton Public Market will be open at the fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday afternoons all summer before coming to an end on September 15. The vendors will be a little different each week, with each one picking select weeks to be available. Frequent visitors will be able to obtain membership cards for discounts and reserved parking. The market is not associated with the Milton’s Farmers Market, but Suos says that he hopes the two events can complement each other.
