This November, the Milton Players Theatre Group will be presenting their production of The Dixie Swim Club, a woman-centred comedy.
The play, written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, deals with five Southern women who reunite every year in memory of their college swim team (hence the title) and catch up on each other’s lives.
The play aims to celebrate female friendship and experience. The five women will be played by Janine Heaven, Gillian Taggart, Heather Smith, Kim Evans and Jennifer Brown, with Katie Clelland Busuttill in the director’s chair. The trio of Jones, Hope and Wooten have written over a dozen plays, most of which have been crowd-pleasing comedies set in the American South.
The play is the first presentation of the Milton Players’ landmark 40th season. The season will also see the group present Robin Hawdon’s Perfect Wedding and Norm Foster’s The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby in the first half of 2020.
The Milton Players is an amateur theatre group consisting of local community members. Such groups typically depend on volunteer labour and support from local businesses, such as local printing services for program and poster printing, or vintage clothing shops for costumes.
The Dixie Swim Club will be staged at the FirstOntario Arts Centre in Milton. There will be six performances between November 8 and 16, with one matinee.
