Spring is quickly approaching, and Milton gardeners are already planning how to kick-start the green season with a special Seedy Saturday event this March.
Now in its fourth year in Milton, Seedy Saturday is an annual event hosted by Seeds of IMBOLC, a Fergus, Ontario-based gardening store. The event will offer a community market complete with vendors selling seeds, tools, and other essentials for spring planting.
Gardening shops often use tools like poster printing to give an idea of what the fully-grown plant will look like, which could create a wall of floral graphic design even if winter remains stubborn outside. In addition to the professional vendors, enthusiasts can participate in a ‘seed swap’ to get fresh products and try new projects.
Seedy Saturday will also feature talks on topics like growing one’s own food and how to address downpours, which could be helpful for both novice and experienced gardeners. Admission for children is free, and there will be an activity area aimed at young green thumbs.
Other events include hourly give-aways, a ‘penny auction’, and refreshments. The event is part of a larger trend of focusing on local, naturally pollinated and heritage seeds, for reasons of environmental responsibility as well as gardening benefits.
Milton’s edition of Seedy Saturday will take place on the morning of March 28th at the Sherwood Community Centre.
