Milton Philharmonic pays tribute to legendary movie composer

Composer John Williams’s scores, familiar to generations of movie lovers, will be brought to life for Milton-area listeners in a special concert this April.

The show, performed by the Milton Philharmonic Orchestra, will be named ‘May the Fourth Be With You’, a reference to Williams’s iconic background music for the Star Wars series. Williams has also contributed famous music to films such as E. T., Jaws, Jurassic Park, Superman and the Harry Potter franchise. These scores have made him the second-most nominated individual in the history of the Academy Awards, after only Walt Disney.

The Milton Philharmonic is a fairly recent establishment, founded in 2014 as a membership-based community group which is run co-operatively. Music director Sabatino Vacca, who has produced operas and concerts from Southern Ontario to the Czech Republic, has been with the orchestra since the start.

Local musical groups often use tools like poster printing and banner printing to raise their profile and attract potential listeners. For those Miltonians interested in doing more than listening, the orchestra holds auditions every year.

‘May the Fourth’ will be held, of course, on May 4, which has become an unofficial holiday for Star Wars enthusiasts. The concert will be held at Milton’s FirstOntario Arts Centre. It will serve as the finale to the Milton Philharmonic’s 2018-19 season, which also included the fifth edition of its holiday-themed Winterlude concert and the classical-oriented Euphonius show.
