Milton Older Adult Strategy looking to expand programs

The Older Adult Strategy reached the conclusion on Monday, August 13, that the city of Milton needs to be prepared for an inevitable demographic reality over the next 20 years. The number of senior citizens is expected to triple and the city must enhance and expand its current recreation programs and facilities to meet the needs of future residents. The Milton Activity Centre will need to be significantly enhanced or even replaced, the Older Adult Strategy decided.

The Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre (MSAC) should be sensitive to the needs of older residents, according to the advisory board of the center, offering programs to help older adults feel energetic.

Local Print companies could definitely provide a strong advertising boost to the Milton Activity Centre, especially in light of the planned 5,000 - 10,000-foot expansion planned for the facility. Strong marketing and communication of programs is one important commitment the MSAC is using to help meet the Older Adult Strategy, as the Centre increases its staff to represent the diversity of the Milton population.

Print companies can help go a long way to helping seniors participate in recreational programs and overcome transportation and cost barriers - two important hindrances that prevent older adults from remaining healthy and active. Local flyer printing could also help advertise and promote Milton’s new pricing discounts, which could soon offer discounted pricing to adults as early as 55, and waive fees for members aged 85 and older.
The Older Adult Strategy has its own section on the Town of Milton website, where those interested can keep up-to-date on its latest recommendations and strategies.
