Culture Days typically draw over 4, 000 visitors to its home base of Arts Centre Milton, but about 85 percent of this year’s events will take place online to provide more accessible and socially distant entertainment and education. Events range from readings and book club discussions hosted by the Milton Public Library to Bollywood dance lessons, with inspiration coming from countries ranging from the Caribbean to Italy.
The month of events is Milton’s rendition of the province-wide Culture Days initiative. Events like these, often promoted through tools like poster printing and social media, are often customized to represent and cater to the local community.
Milton’s Culture Days will also include plenty of programming for children, such as story time and puppet lessons. The creatively inclined can show off their art and graphic design skills in competitions like the Milton Photo Challenge or pick up some new tips from the many seminars. Arts Co-ordinator Kaitlyn Patience argued for the importance of the event:
“We see a lot of different people in Milton, but we don't know how to celebrate that. Milton culture days offers the community an opportunity to learn more about other people's cultures.”
Milton Culture Days launched on September 25 and will run until October 25, with programming available online at Arts Milton’s website.
