Milton golf event benefits childrens mental health

An institution in the local business community, the 2019 edition of the Cowan Charity Classic golf tournament in Milton raised a record amount of money for Children’s Mental Health Ontario.

The event was hosted by the Cowan Insurance Group in conjunction with The Cowan Foundation. The tournament raised an announced $175, 000, which will go towards building an online resource for families of children dealing with mental health issues.

Group president Heather McLachlin expressed pride in the event’s success, saying:

“Giving back to the communities in which we live and work is at the core of who we are. That’s why the choice to partner with CMHO with an end goal of helping to create an online resource for families with children dealing with mental health issues was a simple one.”

CMHO is an association made up of publicly-funded Child and Youth Mental Health Centres. It advocates for greater government attention towards the issue of mental health and for the development of a coordinated, province-wide system of care. The group holds events throughout the province to enhance understanding of mental illness and reach out to sufferers.

The Cowan Classic, which has a history going back to 2002, took place on June 17 at Milton’s own Glencairn Golf Club. Charity events are a way for businesses to give back to the community as well as enhance their brand.
