Milton film fest to return with new home

The Milton Film Festival will be returning to the theatre after a year away, but some aspects will be different than festivalgoers are used to.

The festival will be holding its 9th edition, with a hybrid of in-person and virtual streaming.

The 2021 edition of the festival was held entirely virtually, with the format successfully showcasing a number of films such as Jasmine Road, which won the Audience Choice Award for Best Canadian Feature, and SHIFT, which took home honours for Best Short Film. Films in this year’s festival will be competing for the same awards, based on audience votes.

This edition of the Milton Film Festival will be broken down into a week of virtual screenings done through an online platform and three days of in-person screenings at the event’s temporary home of the John Elliott Theatre in Georgetown. The change was made due to the closure of the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, which is ongoing.

The festival will also include question-and-answer sessions and interviews with guests from the film industry. Film festivals like this, typically promoted through flyer printing and social media, provide a showcase for smaller and local movies, as well as potential future stars.

The 2022 Milton Film Festival will begin with virtual screenings on January 29, with in-person showings taking place between February 4 and 6 at the John Elliott Theatre.
