Milton festival to showcase African culture

The Milton African and Multicultural Festival will celebrate its 5th edition this August, featuring cultural traditions from Africa and around the world.

The day-long event will begin with speeches by Festival Director Jean Assamoa and other local dignitaries, to be followed by a series of stage performances. Performers include the Akwaba Dance Company, Salvadorean Folklore, the Bharatham Academy of Indian Dance, and Black Racine. Performers will represent African nations like Guinea, the Ivory Coast, and Togo as well as other regions like China, Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition to music and dance performances, there will be traditional competitions and games. DJs will offer a mixture of tunes and there will also be a presentation of the new elected president of the ACIRT organization. There will be food vendors providing a sample of Milton’s gastronomic diversity. Festival organizers say that their central mission is:

“to bring together Miltonians, to promote our beautiful Town, to harness our resources and promote the unity of people [and] promote solidarity among Milton communities through culture and educational exchange.”

The festival is hosted annually with support from volunteers. Cultural events like this often use methods like poster printing and social media images to help attract spectators, performers and volunteers.

The 2025 Milton African and Multicultural Festival will occur on August 9 at the Milton Community Sports Park.
