Milton event focuses on fun in skating

The Milton Skate Club will be hosting a local Bring on the Fun event this May, aiming to provide youth and amateur figure skaters a chance to express themselves and rediscover their love for the sport.

The event will feature figure skating competitions in a variety of disciplines and skill levels. Skaters will compete in teams and be judged by coaches, senior skaters, or Skate Ontario officials, with written feedback provided. Events include free skates “creative improv” competitions where skaters must rapidly interpret a piece of music, and showcase programs that aim to tell a story, which can be performed by pairs and groups. There will also be physical skill competitions, such as the longest one-foot glide or the longest spiral.

Appearing at the Milton Bring on the Fun event will be a number of skaters who have represented Canada at the international level, including former Olympic and World Championships competitors Madeline Schizas and Michael Marinaro. These skaters will be acting as judges as well as making special appearances. The competition is part of the Bring On The Fun initiative created by Skate Ontario, with similar events held across the province. Youth and amateur sport events such as this are often advertised through methods like banner printing and social media, and can help develop athletic skills as well as social connections.

Bring on the Fun Milton will take place at the Milton Sports Center from May 3 to 5.
