Students in need in Milton and the rest of the Halton region recently received help from a local business and members of their community.
The employees of Sobeys Extra, under the leadership of Sandy Ma, hosted their first ever Community Block Party at the Milton Marketplace at Louis St. Laurent and Bronte. Through the generosity of shoppers, they were able to raise $1,000 for the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF).
The HLF noted that they are very grateful for the support of local businesses that donated raffle prizes, as well as in store giveaways and other assistance. They especially wanted to thank Mark Latimer, who is the store’s manager, as well as employees who baked, provided hot chocolate, coffee and other refreshments throughout the day. There was also a barbecue set up by the Bank of Montreal, music from Halton Radio, characters in costume and even fire and tow trucks on hand for the public to investigate. A printing company can produce Banners and other items for the day, such as raffle tickets, Signs, coloring sheets for the kids, Brochures that give information about the organization and more.
The HLF will use the funds that were raised to help provide support to the students in the region who need a helping hand such as food, clothing, transportation, footwear, shelter, and more. This way, they will have what they need to allow them to achieve their full academic potential.
