Milton charity event draws big crowd

The Miracle on Main Street charity drive held its 15th annual celebration this month, drawing a crowd of thousands to Milton for a festival-like event.

The event shut down a stretch of Milton’s Main Street for six hours and featured live music, food trucks, and vendors. Families got in the festive spirit with carnival rides and games aimed at young attendees. While the weather did not supply snow, the event summoned a holiday atmosphere with snow machines and classic carols. The event even saw a marriage proposal, with local councillor Adil Khalqi proposing to his girlfriend on stage.

The purpose of the Miracle was to collect toys for less fortunate children across Halton Region, a long-time initiative ran by the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation and new partner Downtown Milton BIA. In addition to the festival, toys were collected at schools and local stores. Charity events such as this often use items such as flyer printing and websites to help explain the benefit they are working towards. The Miracle is just one of the reasons Milton is considered one of the most generous communities in Canada, with the town being recently listed as one of the biggest per-capita donors on GoFundMe.

The 15th annual Miracle on Main Street took place on December 9 in downtown Milton, with collected toys set to be distributed throughout the holiday season.
