A Milton group comprising female business owners and operators who come together to support themselves, and raise both funds and awareness of local not-for-profit groups, has reported that its members have had another successful year.
According to representatives from the Milton Area Female Entrepreneurs (MAFE), the group – through its different fundraising activities – was able to collect more than $450,000 in 2014.
The money is donated to many different area organizations, including Halton Women’s Place, the United Way of Halton, the Milton district Hospital Foundation, and several other groups.
The money was raised through a variety of activities, including tea parties and Black and White Pyjama Parties. The 1,400 members of the group support each other in both their business and money-raising activities. They promote each other’s events, donate items for fundraisers like silent auctions, and they also attend each other’s activities when they can.
The group was started up five years ago and largely operates on an online basis, through such means as Facebook and other social media networking sites. Group members note that it gives them a chance to come together to support one another and help their community.
