Milton Arts Centre aims to spark creativity with new online program

The First Ontario Arts Centre Milton has begun a new set of virtual programs designed to adapt to current circumstances, labelled ArtSparks Community.

The programming consists of three weekly one-hour presentations. The week begins with Movement Mondays, a virtual dance lesson from the centre’s instructors. Wednesday is Little Sparks, an arts and crafts workshop aimed at young audiences with adult supervision. The final feature is Friday Night Spotlight, a live performance by a local Milton artist. The May 1 event featured local blues and rock musician Gavin McLeod. Interested artists are welcomed to contact the Centre for a future slot.

ArtSparks Community is designed as an alternative to the Centre’s ArtSparks program, which typically provides an opportunity for Milton elementary school students to visit for a free performance or workshop. ArtSparks is designed to complement and encourage interest in the Centre’s other programming, from professional concerts to summer camps, and to spark what could be a lifelong interest leading to careers like graphic design, music composing, Logo Design and more.

The three online ArtSparks Community programs will air weekly until the end of June on Arts Centre Milton’s social media platforms. Video on demand of past lessons can be viewed on platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. The Centre’s website will be updated with future broadcasting details.
