The town of Milton, Ontario, is the subject of a new documentary created by local mixed media artist Fahim Hamid.
Hamid plans to submit the film to festivals and competitions around the world, but he is premiering it this month in the most natural location – Milton itself.
Magical Milton tells the story of the town’s 163-year history. Milton Mayor Gord Krantz serves as narrator and storyteller for the 45-minute film, which will feature interview with a variety of citizens and historians. While shorter-form documentaries are unlikely to be blockbusters, many have become surprise hits at film festivals and on social media, supported by attractive poster printing and Promotional Products.
Hamid, who moved to Milton in 2012, has previously created the documentaries “Maple Morning” and “Steadfast”, both of which dealt with the topic of Canadian values and acceptance. His goal with Magical Milton is to celebrate how the town’s residents have welcomed newcomers. Members of the Toronto Film School and LP Media Works also contributed to the documentary, while Milton Councillor John Hallinor served as producer. Hamid has said he plans to show the film to Canadian television networks, with the hopes of reaching a diverse audience.
The film’s premiere will be held at Mattamy Theatre in the First Ontario Arts Centre on the afternoon of January 12. Admission is free, but seating is limited to the first 500 attendees.
