La Rose Bakery dominates Milton food awards
The results of the 2019 Canadian Champion Reader’s Choice Awards Milton have been announced. Many restaurants, bakeries, cafes and other establishments were honoured, some large chains and some local favourites, but one name kept popping up in the awards list - La Rose Italian Bakery.
La Rose achieved first place, or ‘Diamond’ distinction, in fifteen categories: Bakery, Butcher/Meat Shop, Cakes/Cupcakes, Catering, Delicatessen, Dessert, Doughnut, Grocery, Health Food, Italian, Lunch, Pizza, Sandwiches, Specialty Food, and Take Out.
The Italian bakery has been a fixture in Milton since 1982, and boasts baking its products from scratch every day. In addition to baked goods, it offers produce, deli meats, cheese, and a new lunch menu every day. It’s this diversity which has allowed it to become a regional favourite in so many areas. Other local bakeries, like Hillary’s Cupcakes and Cobs Bread, received Silver and Gold certification.
The Canadian Champion awards, released in late November, are put together by Inside Halton, a news organization covering Milton and the rest of Halton Region. The awards are broken down by city, meaning there are separate votes for Milton and other Halton cities like Oakville.
Local awards like this are often promoted using poster printing. Other multiple-category winners in the 2019 poll include Eddie O’s Pour House & Kitchen, Louie’s Diner and Ivy Arm’s. In addition to food, awards were presented in categories ranging from entertainment to shopping.
