This August will see the Afro-Jazz Fest once again take the stage in Milton, promising a weekend full of jazz beats and cultural programming.
The annual event is designed to showcase Milton and Southern Ontario’s Afro-Caribbean community, as well as the best of local artists. Genres showcased range from rumba and salsa to reggae and traditional African music, with art Forms such as dance, visual art, and storytelling also represented. There will also be a cultural parade showcasing the diversity of Afro-Caribbean heritage, and participatory activities such as a drum circle and African dance workshop. One popular aspect of the festival is the Kids Zone, which lets young visitors get hands on with crafts, games, musical instruments, and painting from various African and Caribbean cultures.
The Afro-Jazz Festival will also feature a vendors’ marketplace offering food, crafts, and other products and services from African and Caribbean communities. Cultural events such as this are a popular way for local shoppers to find unusual gift items, tastes, and more, with vendors sometimes providing unique deals or Promotional Products. The festival is hosted by the Centre Canadian de la Famille, a group that aims to promote culturally diverse family events in Southern Ontario.
The 2023 Afro-Jazz Festival is scheduled to take place on August 26 and 27 at Milton Community Sports Park.
