The Milton fire department is very grateful for a gift that could well help to keep at least 100 families safe in case of fire.
Union Gas presented the organisation with a gift of $2,500 to be used to help purchase smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for area families who don’t already have them. The donation was made during Fire Prevention Week, which ran from October 5th until the 11th.
According to the city’s Fire Chief, the department gives away 100 of the devices every year. He also reminded residents that they should test their detectors every month and change the batteries in the at least once a year. The units themselves should be replaced after 10 years to ensure that they are still working properly, and will do the job should there be a fire.
Detecting carbon monoxide is important as well, and these monitors should also be tested. Ontario law requires that smoke alarms be located on every floor of a dwelling, and that they also be placed outside of sleeping areas.
The fire chief also stressed the importance of people making an escape plan in case of fire, and that everyone in the household know it well. Should an emergency arise, this could save someone’s life. A Stationery printing company can help by producing “escape plan sheets” that families can use to plan out their escape routes. They can also include other fire safety tips.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
