This December, Milton will play host to the Ontario Cup, a competitive indoor cycling competition.
The event, also called the OCup, will feature a full day of races that are free to attend. There will be different competitions sorted by ability and gender. The indoor event will be held in a velodrome setting using a fast-paced loop. The Milton event is the first of three stops on the OCup series, with the goal being to provide Ontario-area riders a chance to race on an indoor track and build towards the provincial championships. The races will also double as a food drive for Food 4 Kids Halton, with attendees and participants encouraged to bring non-perishable food goods.
Along with the OCup, the weekend will include an edition of the Youth Track Development Series, which sees cyclists 18 and under compete in various races and categories. The emphasis is on non-traditional formats, encouraging racers to focus on developing skills and tactics rather than head-to-head competition. The YTDS is also a multi-stage event, building up to a YTDS Finale. Competitive events like this can lead to everything from improved fitness and athletic skills to trophies and championship banner printing.
The Milton stage of the Ontario Cup will take place on December 11, with the YTDS event happening on the 10th. Both competitions will go down at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton.
