Womens hockey to takeover Hamilton
The Professional Women’s Hockey League will be bringing its Takeover Tour to Hamilton this January, featuring top-level action on the ice.
The match-up will be a regular season encounter between the nearby Toronto Sceptres and new expansion team Seattle Torrent. Both teams will feature talent familiar from the Canada and United States women’s national teams, with the Sceptres led by Blayre Turnbull, Allie Munroe and Hamilton native Renata Fast, and the Torrent featuring American stars Hilary Knight, Alex Carpenter and Emily Brown.
The game will be the first hockey match hosted at Hamilton’s TD Coliseum since its re-opening after renovations. The arena has been refurbished to sit 18,000 people with enhanced concessions, lighting, seating and sound. Promotional material emphasizes accessibility:
The Sceptres vs. Torrent game is part of the PWHL’s Takeover Tour, which has teams playing outside their own city to help grow the game. The tour will visit 16 cities this year, with past games drawing record crowds. Touring games like this often use methods like poster printing and local media advertising to help introduce sports teams and leagues to new audiences.
The PWHL Takeover Tour will appear in Hamilton at TD Coliseum on the afternoon of January 3.
