Battle to be re-enacted in Hamilton

One of the Hamilton area’s most historic traditions will return this June when local organizations and enthusiasts re-enact the Battle of Stoney Creek.

The long-running event is based on the pivotal battle in the War of 1812, with re-enactments taking place on the same day and ground as the clash between Canadian and American soldiers. Visitors can tour a recreated 19th-century soldier camp as well as the historic monument and house.

The battle re-enactment also incorporates digital technology in the form of the virtual tour: “Eagles Among Us”. The event has also grown to include Indigenous history, with a game of lacrosse under traditional Haudenosaunee rules played before the battle. There will also be live music, games, food and drinks rooted in the setting of early nineteenth century Canada.

There will be three battle re-enactments across two days. Both days will include a merchant area with local vendors as well as refreshments and activities. Saturday will conclude with a commemorative fireworks display. Re-enactment events like this often use modern methods like poster printing and social media to attract families, history lovers, and other audience members.

The 2026 Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek will take place on June 6 and 7 at the Battlefield House Museum & Park. Admission will be free for all visitors.
