Traditional road race returns to Hamilton

North America’s oldest road race, the Around the Bay Road Race, will run again in Hamilton this April.

This will be the 132nd edition of the tradition, and feature a new route. The race typically attracts tens of thousands of participants and spectator and has featured some of the best long-distance runners in the road. Runners can choose to participate in a variety of distances from 5 to 30 kilometres, as well as choosing between smoother and hillier routes around Hamilton Harbour.

There will be various locations around the race with spectator stands to watch runners in Hamilton and Burlington, including Lasalle Park and Dundurn Castle. Sections of York Boulevard and other streets will be closed for the race. There will also be toilets, water, and first aid stations located along the route. Live bands and other entertainers will also be located along the route to create a unique experience.

The top finishers for each distance and age group category will receive medals upon the completion of the event, in a ceremony at the FirstOntario Centre. Runners can also choose to participate as a team. Road races like this often use methods like presentations and banner printing to help provide a sense of occasion and recognize supporters.

The 2026 Around the Bay Road Race will take place on April 12, with the race beginning and ending at the Discovery Centre at Pier 8.
