Hamilton shopping street to mark holidays

One of Hamilton’s most storied shopping streets, Ottawa Street North will be holding a special Holiday Cheer Weekend this December for those looking for a unique gift.

The weekend will see Ottawa Street businesses open late for the holiday. The area is known for its craft materials and clothing stores, as well as newer establishments like The City & The City Bookstore and Cabinet of Curiosities. On Friday evening, Santa Claus will pay a visit, strolling through the street followed by carollers and stopping at a parkette to meet with children.

The Holiday Cheer Weekend will also feature horse and carriage rides, hot chocolate, and live musical performances. Saturday will feature a holiday photo booth hosted by Crown & Press Art Gallery + Cafe. Visitors can also make their own crafted photo frames and enjoy festive treats at Earl’s Court Gallery.

The weekend event is hosted by the Ottawa Street North BIA, with the goal of attracting holiday shoppers. Commercial associations often use methods like banner printing and lamppost decorations to create a unique atmosphere. Promotional material for the event states

“Holiday Cheer is a free, family-friendly event that brings the community together to celebrate the magic of the season. Shop small, enjoy unique experiences, and make lasting memories on Ottawa Street North. Everyone is welcome!”

Holiday Cheer Weekend will take place on December 5 and 6 along Ottawa Street North between Main and Barton.
