Remembrance Day services throughout communities in Canada honored surviving and fallen veterans and soldiers, as well as their family and friends. Silver Crosses were particularly close to the hearts of family and friends at Gore Park’s Remembrance Day service, which took place in Hamilton on Sunday, November 11.
The Silver Cross is issued to three family members of any fallen soldier, and was presented to a Hamilton family at the ceremony to remember Mark Antony Graham - a soldier who died six years ago in Afghanistan. The services were officiated in front of hundreds of residents, who remembered both the lives and deaths of war veterans and also recalled history and the price paid for freedom.
The parade saw hundreds of veterans, army and navy reservists, members of the Royal Canadian legion, as hundreds of other individuals who simply participated in the parade. Printed photographs, banner printing, and Posters were also important parts of the procession. The Hamilton service was held in the downtown core from James Street to the cenotaph at Gore Park. Many other smaller communities in the region participated in similar services as well.
This past week, WWII veterans also spoke to children in school and after school programs about various experiences and celebrations to mark Remembrance Day this past weekend.
