Hamilton workshop to create positive caregiver relationships

The Alzheimer Society of Hamilton is offering local people a program that can help caregivers to both look after their loved one and themselves.

This series of intensive workshops will run for eight weeks, and it will be an interactive experience. It will be offered as a face to face event, and safety measures will be followed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The facilitator will walk the group through a variety of simulations, and as they go, they will discuss problem solving techniques and tips for communicating with their loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. The goal is to create a positive and meaningful relationship between a caregiver and the individual they are looking after, and each session will run for approximately one and a half hours.

One of the benefits attending an event like this is that it connects people with others in the community who are going through a similar experience. Packets of learning materials for the session can be prepared by an area brochure printing company to give to each of the registrants.

The start date for the Carers program will be December 9th, and the final session will take place on February 3rd. It will be held on Wednesday mornings from 10.00am, and space at the Reitman Centre has been reserved for the occasion.
