Hamilton walk to introduce winter tree identification
Tree identification may be easy in the spring and summer, but a Hamilton outing will teach how to do so even when their leaves have fallen, and it will also explore forest ecology.
The Trees of McMaster Forest walk will last for approximately three hours, and it will provide an introduction to the species that call the forest home. Kyle McLoughlin and Steven Burgess will serve as the guides.
During the visit, the group will learn how to identify trees using traits such as outline, leaf scars, bud shape and other characteristics, and they will learn about the role each plays in its ecosystem. There will be a discussion of the history of the property and the role it has played in the community, and everyone is advised to wear sturdy walking shoes or boots and to dress for the weather. Questions will be welcome.
People may really appreciate the opportunity to learn about the natural world. Offering the participants in an activity similar to this one promotional pens and a nature journal may encourage them to keep on making their own discoveries.
This guided visit to McMaster Forest will depart from 1105 Lower Lions Club Road at 9:00 am on November 18th. Its registration system is open now via Eventbrite, and those who would like to join in are asked to register in advance.
