Hamilton theatre to present local story

Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius will be starting its season close to home this October with its production of the original play Time Capsule.

The play is a comedy set in a Hamilton church basement, about a group of adults opening a time capsule project from their childhood. The play is written by local Matt Murray, previously known as the writer and director of Maggie the Musical, and directed by Mary Francis Moore. The production will star actors Richard Alan Campbell, Deborah Drakeford and Stephanie Sy, among others.

Promotional material for the play describes it as a feel-good story, with an emphasis on strong female roles. Theatrical productions like this often use poster printing and social media marketing to help attract local lovers of the stage. Advertising for Time Capsule emphasizes the colourful cast of characters:

“A menopausal teacher desperate to stay relevant, a rough-around-the-edges church cleaner who tells it like it is, a Gen Z bartender with a chip on her shoulder, a heartbroken Winners sales clerk who knows too much about throw pillows, and a hockey-obsessed husband [...]”

Time Capsule will be the first Main Stage production of Theatre Aquarius’s 2025-26 season. The season will also include productions of favourites like Frozen and Murder on the Orient Express and more Canadian content with It’s A Good Life If You Don’t Weaken.

The Theatre Aquarius production of Time Capsule will be staged from October 1 to 18 at the theatre’s Main Stage.
