After a decline in their numbers, southern Ontario bat populations are now on the rise, and a Hamilton event will bring the public face to face with these nocturnal creatures.
The Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) will be opening its gates for a night-time experience that will introduce participants to the species of bats that can be found in the area. Other animals and plants will also be discussed, and the function will include time outdoors.
The participants in the session will be led by an experienced nature guide, who will point out the different species they encounter along the way. There will be a discussion of bat behaviour, life cycles and ecology, and the group will also learn why the gardens provide them with a great spot to call home. This outing will take place in the arboretum, and face masks are strongly encouraged.
Offering the public a chance to take part in this sort of activity is one of the ways an institution can spark an interest in conservation. Supplying the participants with printed identification tools will help them to continue making discoveries after a function has drawn to a close, and these may be created by local Print shops.
