Southern Ontario has been expecting some sweltering summer days, yet in spite of the heat, the air quality in the city of Hamilton has

been quite good.

Dave Phillips, who is a meteorologist with Environment Canada noted that the last time a smog advisory was issues in the area was back in 2013. He remarked that even though it has been hot and hazy, the humidex has remained low enough to prevent the formation of this noxious gas.

He further went on to say that a combination of factors have been at play in keeping the air quality at decent levels. The summers have not been as hot as in years past, the humidity is lower, and the levels of air pollution have gone down. Dennis Corr, who is chair of Clean Air Hamilton, expressed the view that the levels of air contamination have dropped, and that the city’s residents are enjoying air that is 90 percent less dirty than it was back in the 1970s. He noted that everyone in the community has worked together to make things better, and it’s the sum total of their efforts that have made the difference.
