Hamilton public asked to play their part to help trees
The hot weather of summer has arrived, and the city of Hamilton has out put a call to area residents asking them to help keep its tree canopy thriving.
A request has been made to the public that asks them to consider watering the trees on the areas around their properties, and not just the ones that are actually on them. This includes those that are growing on road allowances and those that are in other public spaces.
According to the city, this year’s hot temperatures and lack of rainfall could affect the health of the trees, especially those that have been recently planted to replace those lost to the emerald ash borer. It further went on to say that any help the public can give in this situation will be greatly appreciated. Direct mail printing can be an effective way to make sure all households know about the situation and what they can do to help in cases like this.
Trees can be very susceptible to drought, as it affects their health and increases the effect of insect and other damage. Symptoms that they may be suffering from dryness are browning, curled and drying leaves, and in certain evergreens, the needles may turn purplish or yellow. The city advises that a slow and deep watering is the best way to make sure that they are receiving enough hydration to thrive.
