Hamilton outing to explore world of oak trees

There has been a long connection between humans and oak trees, and the Royal Botanical Gardens Arboretum will explore this relationship with a group of registrants for an upcoming event.

The members of both the red and white groups of oaks will be on the agenda for discussion during an outing that will be held at the Hamilton arboretum, and the participants will learn how humans have made use of these trees throughout history. They will discuss how they have been used for food, building materials and for landscaping purposes, and continuing education credits may be available.

The registrants will enjoy a docent-led hike through the site, and the facilitators will point out the various oak species as they go. The attendees will find out which one are best for planting in the local area, and the impact microclimates may have on species or cultivar selection will be reviewed as well. Everyone will be able to brush up on their oak ID skills, and anyone who would like to sign up can do so now.

Both amateur and professional horticulturists may appreciate learning something new about trees and other plants, and workshops offer an opportunity to do so. Brochure printing services for an activity can be obtained from local printers.

The Royal Botanical Garden Arboretum will be presenting this learning opportunity on Saturday, October 15. It will begin at 1:00 pm.
