Hamilton’s nature lovers are about to be treated to an opportunity to engage in some environmental stewardship, and all they need to take part is a smartphone.
The Hammer City Nature Challenge is set to kick off, and it will see participants catalogue the various wildlife that calls their local area home. Anyone who wishes to take part will need to download the iNaturalist app, and no prior experience is needed.
Once an individual has downloaded the app, they will be able to take photos of wildlife, and these images will be collected and positively identified. This information will then be made available to scientists and the general public. The organizers have explained that along with helping to collect data, the participants will hopefully develop a greater appreciation for the wildlife around them.
