Hamilton man raises funds for homeless during holiday season

A Hamilton man spent the early part of this holiday season helping to raise funds for the homeless. He felt compelled to do this, because he knows what a challenge it can be to live on the street - because he’s been

there himself.

Ron Hartwick set up shop in the Hamilton Public Library to sell toques and socks, with the proceeds going to the Transitions to Home program.

The Transition to Homes initiative provides the homeless with aid such as counseling, goal setting and help in their daily life. This can range from helping individuals to find the right type of support for their particular situation to assistance in finding housing.

Mr. Hartwick’s fundraising activities at the library are not the only way he gives back to those who were there for him. He lends a hand with setting up and manning special events, and sits on the organization’s participant advisory committee.

According to Mr. Hartwick, “paying it forward” is not the only reason he is happy to do his part. He pointed out that it provides a reason for him to go into the community several times a week, which adds greatly to his quality of life.
Working for charities and other such initiatives, a printer can design items to promote such an event as well as informational flyers and brochures to explain where funds will be going and why they are needed.
