Hamilton home horticulturists to discover rain gardening

Rain gardening has become increasingly popular in recent years, and this horticultural practice will be introduced to the attendees of an upcoming Hamilton workshop.

The rain garden that can be found at The Rock on Locke, The Church of Saint John the Evangelist will be the focus of discussion during an activity that will be on offer as part of the city’s Stormwater Week of activities. It is free to take part, and it has been designed to be both entertaining and informative.

The group of registrants will sit in on a presentation that includes remarks by the garden manager at St. John’s garden, as well as a representative of the Kirkendall Garden Club. They will discuss how rain gardens help prevent pollution of waterways, as well as reduce flooding risk, and the audience will walk away with a better knowledge of cultural practices and which plants may be a good fit.

Along with the lecture, the Rain Garden Tour on Locke will offer the learners an opportunity to purchase seeds, as well as learn about the use of a winter seed starter. Stationery printers can prepare information packets for workshops like this one.

This introduction to the benefits of rain gardening is scheduled for August 5th at 320 Charlton Avenue. It will kick off at 6:00 pm.
