Hamilton firefighters among the best
A fire department in Hamilton has been tested for its ability to put out a blaze, and its high score could be good news to rural business owners.
The test asked the participants to show that they can deliver a constant and steady stream of water at a rate of at least 400 gallons per minute for a time of two hours. They must be able to do so without needing to have a fire hydrant available for direct access.
They performed so well that, according to Deputy Fire Chief David Cunliffe, the Fire Underwriters Survey representative who was on hand to oversee their demonstration remarked that they did the best of any department he had seen in Ontario.
Their high scores could translate into lower rates for insurance for businesses served by the firefighters. The department advised those who own a business to get in touch with their providers to see if it will make a difference for them. The reduction can vary based upon the insurance provider and the property involved. A company that prints stationery can produce certificates that can be given to the firefighters to congratulate them for their efforts and skill at their job.
Chief Cunliffe noted that their excellent performance is a result of them being able to work well as a team, and he is very proud of how well they did.
