What's Happening in Hamilton, ON…

Hamilton area presentation to explain importance of keeping creeks cool

The temperatures in many of Ontario’s creeks and rivers is on the rise, and Trout Unlimited is working hard to restore these bodies of water so native species can survive. A presentation that will offer a glimpse into its various projects has been scheduled for this December, and it will be focused on Twelve Mile Creek.

The group has been working to preserve the creek, which is the last of the Niagara Region’s cold water brooks. The attendees at this Hamilton area presentation will learn about its projects, and Brian Green will be leading the discussion.

Green will share details about Trout Unlimited’s efforts to ameliorate the effects of poor land management, erosion and a loss of the tree canopy that helps to keep the water cool. They will also discover what steps it is taking to lower the water temperature so that trout and other native species can thrive. It has received assistance from several organizations and individuals such as Scouts Canada and Canadian Forces members who sustained a combat-related injury.

Burlington’s Royal Botanical Gardens will be the venue for this opportunity to learn about the work being done by Trout Unlimited, right in their local area. A brochure printing company can lend a hand by preparing pamphlets that offer more details and photos of project being undertaken by the group hosting this sort of event.

This event, which is being organized for the area by the Hamilton Naturalists Club, will be offered to the public on December 9. The discussion will begin at 7:00 pm.
