What's Happening in Hamilton, ON…

Hamilton activity to help feathered friends

Winter can be a tough time of the year for the birds that call Hamilton home, and local families have been invited to be part of a rafting session that may help their feathered friends make it through.

The Fieldcote Memorial Park & Museum will be teaming up with the Hamilton Children’s Museum to bring an event to the community that will treat its feathery residents to a special meal. It has been designed to encourage families to enjoy fun in the great outdoors, and all ages are welcome.

Those members of the public who drop by will be preparing simple pinecone bird feeders using the materials provided. While they do, they will have the chance to learn about the Great Backyard Bird Count, which is an annual event undertaken by citizen scientists. They will then be able to take them home and place them in their back yard or out in their balcony for the birds to enjoy.

A hands-on activity like this can introduce families to the fun of environmental stewardship. Spreading the word about such an activity may be made a lot easier with assistance from area flyer printing companies.

The Family Day – Pine Cone Café event is on the way for February 19th. The activity can be undertaken between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm at 64 Sulphur Springs Road, and the regular museum admission applies.
