The Firefighters Chili and Music Fest will take place in Hamilton over three days in August. Included in the festival will be Firefit 2013; a contest in which firefighters navigate a challenge course against the clock.
Firefit has been called the hardest two minutes in sport. Firefighters, who are fully in uniform, including a heavy air pack, must compete against one another. The challenge includes carrying a 42lb hose up six flights of stairs, releasing it off the top of the 40ft structure and then rolling it back up. They must then carry the hose down the stairs again.
Other challenges during the two minutes include hammering a beam and dragging an adult-sized human dummy backwards for 100 feet.
In addition, the festival will include a chili contest in which 25 area restaurants will compete against Hamilton Firehouse Chili; guests will be able to purchase samples of each chili and make their own decision. There will also be a children's area with bounce houses and games, live musical entertainment, a firefighter food truck competition, and vendors selling a variety of unique items.
Organizers will most likely be working with Hamilton printing companies to get the word out about the festival; this might involve investing in flyer printing services.
The Firefighters Chili and Music Fest, including the Firefit event, will take place at Confederation Park from August 2-4. Admission is free. Sponsorships are available from $500 - $5,000. For more information about the festival, call 905-928-0290.
