What's Happening in Hamilton, ON…

One of Hamilton’s most treasured entertainers, comedian Martin Short, stars as one of three judges on Canada’s newest reality show, Canada’s Got Talent. The show is part of the America’s Got Talent franchise that has singers, actors, jugglers, magicians, ventriloquists and entertainers competing for a cash prize of $100,000 and the chance to be part of a Las Vegas show.

Martin Short grew up one block east of McMaster University in Westdale, and has fond memories of his Hamilton roots. He met fellow SCTV comedians, Eugene Levy and Dave Thomas, while studying social studies at McMaster, then later went on to become one of the not-for-primetime players on Saturday Night Live, and starred in movies such as Three Amigos, Mars Attacks, and Father of the Bride.

Short has a long career in television, film and stage. Printing companies would have to include a long list of accomplishments on his business card printing, including actor, writer, producer, comedian, singer and director.

Hamiltonians can tune in for a special one-hour comedy show, I, Martin Short, Goes Home, featuring Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, and Joe Flaherty. The show is a mixture of fact and fiction that follows his return to his old neighbourhood in Hamilton, Westdale, to help a fictitious friend in trouble played by Fred Willard. He visits his favourite haunts such as Ivor Wynne Stadium and the hotdog stand in front of Theatre Aquarius, while in the city to do a benefit concert. Look for the TV special on April 3, at 9:00 pm.
