There are plenty of events during February, with some of them occurring at local libraries in support of both Black History Month as well as the exposure to the culture of the Caribbean.
The Pape/Danforth Library celebrates the arrival of guest Dirk McLean, who is the writer of two kids’ Books called “Curtain Up!” and “Play Mas,” on February 9. The Pape/Danforth Library is located at 701 Pape Avenue, and the event with McLean in celebration of Black History Month goes from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
February 9 also sees another special event, but this time it is slated to be held at the Main Street Library, which is found at 137 Main Street. The special guest speaker at this East Toronto locale is Jody Nyasha Warner, an author whose book is “Viola Desmond Won’t Be Budged.” Her book tells the tale of a movie theater back in 1946 in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. When an usher demands that Desmond move herself to another seat, she promptly refuses, so this story is a sort of imitation of the Rosa Parks story from the United States.
