Families in Downsview recently had a chance to share their love of Books with their small children, while enjoying some time in the great outdoors.
The Wild Reading Walk, which was organized by the Downsview Library, encouraged kids to sign out four Books that corresponded with four different locations at nearby Downsview Park. These were the apple orchard, the grove, the pond, and the city garden.
Once they had the Books in hand, they walked with their parents to visit each of the sites, where they could enjoy a self-guided tour that helped the kids learn more about the park and also practice their reading skills.
Jonny Deshman, who put the event together, noted that one of the goals was to entice people to enjoy spending time with their Books out in the park. A Stationery printing firm can produce small maps for the participants to follow, to make sure they get a chance to visit each spot.
The program lasted for two weeks, and those who took part were eligible to have their names entered into a raffle to win time at the beach volleyball court at The Hangar, and also a food basket from Fresh City Farms. Anyone who returned their book set two days after they had borrowed it was given an additional raffle ticket.
Deshman remarked that, depending on how well the Wild Reading Walk worked out, other similar events will be planned for the future.Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Books
