The North Toronto Nitros will be starting their season in Downsview this April, with both men’s and women’s team competing in the Ontario Premier League.
The men’s team currently competes in Ontario Premier League 1, the highest level of semi-professional soccer in the province. This will be the first year under the OPL name after previously being known as League 1 Ontario. The team will kick off its season with an OPL Cup game against Rush Canada Academy, with league play beginning the following weekend.
The Nitros women’s team will be looking to follow up on its successful 2025 season, which saw the team winning its first ever League 1 Ontario Cup and finishing just 3 points short of first place in the league. North Toronto native Damian Gray will be stepping in as Women’s Head Coach. The team will play against nine League 1 opponents in both home and away games, beginning with Simcoe County Rovers FC.
The North Toronto Nitros’ senior team grew out of a youth development program and still features young players representing Downsview and surrounding areas. Each match will have a full game day experience, including themes like Special Olympics Day and Scarborough Simbas Day. Grassroots sports like this often use banner printing and signage to recognize community and history, including past championships.
The 2026 North Toronto Nitros season will kick off on April 11, with games being played throughout the summer at Downsview Park Soccer Fields.
