The Movies Under the Stars series will be back in Downsview this July, with a series of outdoor summer flicks.
The series will kick off with a screening of the 2002 sports comedy Bend it Like Beckham, to accompany Canada’s “summer of soccer”. This will be followed two weeks later by a showing of recent Pixar feature Hoppers. The series will conclude with a “mystery movie” to be revealed only when it starts playing.
Each movie will be screened in both English and French on the same evening, with the screenings taking place at different parts of the park. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and drink as well as lawn chairs or blankets to best enjoy the outdoor environment. Movies are screened on a jumbo-sized inflatable screen.
The free movies have been a popular attraction for families over recent summers, with last year’s series including blockbusters A Minecraft Movie and Captain America: Brave New World. Outdoor programs like this often use grassroots methods like poster printing and social media to help attract participants and raise awareness.
The 2026 Movies Under The Stars series will take place on July 15, July 27 and August 19 at Downsview Park. Each show will start at dusk, with spectators encouraged to register online in advance and arrive early to save a spot.
