The walk is designed to be available for people with all abilities, covering a distance of 1.5-2.5 kilometres on a paved path around Downsview’s Orchard Pavillion. The event will also include food and family activities, aiming to create a welcoming space. Advertising for the event highlights its inclusivity:
“Bring your team of family and friends, colleagues, strollers and walking shoes — this is a walk for everyone.”
Move for Sight is a nationwide event, with participants invited to move in whatever way they see fit to raise money for the Fighting Blindness organization. The organization is the largest fundraiser for vision research in Canada, aiming to find treatments and assistive technology for people with blindness or other vision issues.
The Downsview event will be raising money for the Toronto in-person team, looking to finish highly on the leaderboard. Individuals and groups can also organize their own events or participate remotely. Fundraising events such as this often use brochure printing or speakers to help outline the good that donations can do as well as the contributions of sponsors and volunteers.
The 2026 Toronto edition of Move for Sight will take place at Orchard Pavilion in Downsview Park on the morning of June 6.
