Downsview area fest features folk music

The Winterfolk Blues and Roots Festival will be back in Toronto this February, with four days of folk music and learning.

This will be the 24th edition of the festival, featuring over 100 artists across three stages in a single venue. The lineup will feature veteran artists such as Maple Blues Award winner Shakura S’Aida, prolific Trinidadian Canadian guitarist Toney Springer, and ‘60s folk pioneer Harpin’ Norm Lucien alongside up-and-comers and stalwarts of the Toronto-area music scene.

Attendees can also meet with the artists and learn more about their musical techniques and inspirations. The festival was founded with the intent of providing work to folk artists from nearby areas like Downsview and Richmond Hill, and pays 80% of its revenue directly to artists. Artists can also take part in workshops to learn from each other.

Music festivals like this often use poster printing and social media to help connect with the local community and publicize their message. The Festival says that its mission is:

“To share traditional and contemporary folk music highlighting the culture and history of Canada through music, dance and other Forms of artistic expression presented through events and educational experiences which celebrates the ever-changing nature of traditional music.”

The 2026 edition of the Winterfolk Festival will take place at the Tranzac Club in Toronto from February 12 to 15.
