An event at Downsview Park will give residents of the local community a chance to experience a taste of the wild without having to leave the city.
The staff at this urban greenspace will be offering a two-hour session in the Discovery Centre that will give those who participate an introduction to tea made from a variety of wild plants. These have been traditionally used as a source of nutrients, medicine or just a way to warm up on a cold winter day.
The workshop will go one step further than indoor instruction.; those who participate in this family friendly event will take to the trails, harvest some eastern white cedar twigs and needles and make a batch of wild tea. They will brew it over a campfire and then relax while they enjoy a hot drink and conversation.
This afternoon in the wild is part of a series being offered to help city residents get back to nature. There is no charge for this event, and anyone under 16 who wishes to get involved needs to have adult accompaniment. People are reminded to dress for the weather, and strollers are not recommended, since the terrain may be rough. Newsletter printing can be used to keep he public abreast of special activities such as this that are offered in their area.
Those who would like to enjoy a taste of this natural brew on February 28 are asked to RSVP at the Downsview Park Nature Connection’s webpage.
