Festival to showcase roots of local music

One of New Brunswick’s biggest annual musical events, the Living Roots Festival will be returning to Fredericton this June.

The event aims to highlight Maritime musical acts in a variety of genres, highlighting less well-known artists and performers. Headliners include acclaimed indie rock singer-songwriter Greg MacPherson, and roots artist Lynne Hanson, alongside names such as Union Duke, K-Man & The 4ts, and Peanut butter Sunday. Concerts will take place at a variety of venues across the cities. For young music fans, there will be a number of all-ages shows, including an event with special pricing for students featuring “Broadway punk band” He/She/They, Vice Rose, and Tea 4 Three.

In addition to the musical performances, there will also be Words & Chords, a writer’s showcase hosted by Tadhg Saxa, and another literary event hosted by Jordan Trethewey. Andrea Ramolo will be performing as well as presenting a screening for her documentary The South. Music festivals such as this often help to showcase emerging acts as well as veteran performers, and commonly use grassroots tools like radio advertising and flyer printing to promote the event. All in all, over 70 acts will perform across the three day event.

The 2024 Living Roots Festival will take place from May 5 to 9. Venues include Broken Record Bar & Music Room, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, and Monarch Night Club.
