Surrey Block Party helps foster sense of community

All were welcome at Surrey’s highly anticipated City Centre Block Party, which took place last week.

Surrey is a city of many cultures, and they came together to celebrate their diversity on Friday, September 25 at the City Hall. Event organizers offered a variety of fun attractions for people of all walks of life, including free food from different cultures, live musical and dance performances, face painting, traditional cultural games, and City Hall tours.

Surrey Immigrant Advisory Roundtable were the event organizers, and they partnered with a variety of other community groups to put on this event, including the likes of Surrey Liberals, City of Surrey Social Planning/Parks and Recreation Departments, Surrey RCMP, Surry School Board, Back in Motion, and Douglas College Training Group.

The Vancouver Foundation provided funding support through the Neighbourhood Small Grants program. As well, the City of Surrey and Vancity provided a financial contribution to help make the event a success.

Local vendors often support events like this through their own services. For instance, Print companies will offer different services, such as banner and poster printing, flyer printing, and printing services for other materials, such as pamphlets and Brochures. The goal of the event is to introduce people to new cultures and create a sense of community and inclusion for everyone in Surrey.
